Volunteer Fairfax
is a private nonprofit corporation serving the Fairfax community since
1975.
In 1993, Volunteer Fairfax founded the Fairfax
County Volunteer Service Awards to honor outstanding citizens, organizations
and corporations that give time and service to the community. Over the
past decade hundreds of dedicated volunteers have been recognized for
their contributions to the arts, education and human services.
In 1999,
as part of its ongoing commitment to corporate community involvement,
the Northern Virginia Technology Council established a special technology
service award to be presented annually at the awards breakfast ceremony.
This honor is given to an NVTC member organization that contributes outstanding
volunteer service to the community through the use of technology. Judging
is based on the benefit of technology to clients or recipients, the impact
on the organization for which service was given and the overall contribution
to the Fairfax County community-at-large.
To submit a nomination for an
NVTC member organization or to nominate your company, complete the Nomination

involvement that offers technological expertise to address issues of homelessness,
education and youth. Service includes developing Web pages for nonprofit
organizations and a Partners in Education program with Falls Church High School

that lack access to technology.
2001 NVTC Service Award
Over the past ten years, Landmark Systems Corporation has set the highest
example of how a partnership between schools and the corporate world can
be a powerful, results-oriented experience. Working with students at Thomas
A. Edison, Landmark inspired the Edison computer science students to
pursue "robotics" and successfully compete in various competitions.
2002 NVTC Service Award
Sensei Enterprises, an emerging technology firm in the City of Fairfax,
has for several years refurbished donated computers for use in the Juvenile
Detention Centers in Fairfax County. The hundreds, if not thousands, of
hours spent in collecting, refurbishing, and delivering these computers
has enabled these children to work on educational projects and provided
a more positive focus for their future. These computers have helped to
uplift these students and given them more opportunities to develop the
skills they'll need to become responsible citizens in the 21st Century.
