NVTC Foundation Awards Northrop Grumman,
Leapfrog Solutions for Volunteer Service

McLean, Va. (April 23, 2003) - Northrop Grumman Mission Systems of Reston and LeapFrog Solutions of Fairfax are this year's recipients of the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) Foundation's Volunteer Service Award.
The NVTC Foundation sponsors the award, now in its fourth year, to recognize ways its member companies are using technology in their volunteer efforts. Previous award recipients include Computer Sciences Corporation, Landmark Systems and Sensei Enterprises.

The judges for the award include members of the NVTC Community Outreach Committee and the staff of Volunteer Fairfax, which sponsors the Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards. The finalists were from eight companies in Northern Virginia. The winners were announced this morning at the Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards ceremonies hosted by Volunteer Fairfax at the Hilton McLean.

"Despite difficult economic times, both of these companies have demonstrated that it is still possible for businesses in the technology sector to continue helping their community," said Tim Nurvala, president of the NVTC Foundation
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems has contributed to the local community for many years. Its employees have supported Fairfax County Public Schools through a host of activities, including a 15-year partnership with Chantilly High School and sponsorship of a laboratory at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology.

The company also has made significant financial contributions to George Mason University and has supported the performing arts through major donations to the Wolf Trap Foundation and the international children's festival sponsored by the Arts Council of Fairfax County.

Northrop Grumman employees also provide volunteer support to the Celebrate Fairfax SciTech Center, Childhelp, and a number of other activities. It also has supported education programs across Fairfax County and the rest of Northern Virginia through the sponsorship of regional science and technology fairs.

Leapfrog Solutions, a strategic marketing communications firm, was recognized for providing its support to non-profits. It has devoted hundreds of hours in time and thousands of dollars in resources to develop websites and other services for a number of organizations in Northern Virginia, including the NVTC Foundation and Volunteer Fairfax.

"Leapfrog Solutions has donated services that have saved volunteer organizations substantial amounts of money that have helped them better achieve their missions," Nurvala said.

"Hopefully, more companies will follow in the example of Northrop Grumman and Leapfrog Solutions and realize the benefits of giving back to their community," he said. "The NVTC Foundation encourages all of our member companies to get involved with their own volunteer programs."
