In
an effort to support students pursuing careers in technology, the Northern
Virginia Technology Council created the Bannister Scholarship Fund.
The Scholarship was named in honor of Daniel Bannister,
founder and current chairman of the Equal Footing Foundation, for his tireless
devotion to the technology community and education. The Scholarship
program was designed to assist students at George Mason University’s
School of Information Technology and Engineering who have demonstrated
academic achievement in the technology disciplines and strong community
involvement.
In addition to receiving a strong education in the technology field,
students selected as NVTC Bannister Scholars are awarded tuition support
and, more importantly, the guidance and leadership of a mentor in their
field. Students are provided with opportunities to meet NVTC members,
visit NVTC companies and learn first-hand about the important technology
innovations being developed in this region. The NVTC Bannister Scholarship
recipients become members of a select group of Dean Scholars and have the opportunity to participate in faculty research programs and
other challenging educational experiences.
- College students entering their second or third year of education. pursuing a degree in one of the technology disciplines.
- Grade point average of at least 3.0.
- Virginia residency is preferred, although not
a requirement.
The scholarship will be based on a combination of needs and merit. George
Mason University identifies the list of candidates who are invited to
submit applications. The NVTC scholarship committee screens the applications
and makes recommendations for final selection by George Mason University.
