VA Space Flight Camp
Igniting Young Minds...Discovering New Stars
Space Flight Adventure (Space Camp) is a week-long residential summer camp sponsored by the Virginia Space Flight Academy in conjunction with the U.S. Navy and NASA for students interested in learning about the science and engineering of rockets, robotics and space flight. Students train alongside fellow "space explorers" to "launch" a mission to Mars and build and launch their own model rockets. They experience what it feels like in space and learn about the technical side of space travel. Students explore robotics using the LEGO MindStorms system, fly cross country with Microsolft Flight simulator and engineer a simulated rocket launch in an actual NASA mission control room while seated behind a computer console.
For two weeks in the summer of 2006, EFF sponsored 12 students with an interest in astronomy and science to the VIGINIA SPACE FLIGHT ACADEMY at Wallops Island, Virginia. Due to a generous donation from the Entrepreneur Center @ NVTC, we were able to send an additional set of young people for a second week and allow our Clubhouse managers to participate in the mentor program.
